Safety First
- Before you do anything, make sure all property occupants (including pets!) are accounted for and safe.
- If possible, turn the property’s main water valve off. If the valve has a round handle, turn it clockwise to stop the flow. If the valve is a lever, turn the handle perpendicular to the water line.
- If you can, turn off power to the property to avoid electrical discharge. Gas leaks are also common—if possible, turn off the gas.
- Avoiding wading in standing water: biological and chemical pollutants may be present. Moreover, building materials can weaken and may result in a dangerous collapse.
Remove Property Contents
Next, and only if it’s safe to do so, remove salvageable property contents from the flood-affected area. If available, wear protective coveralls, gloves, and a face mask to avoid potential health hazards.
- Open doors and windows.
- If dealing with a sewage backup, DON’T RUN FANS. This can spread dangerous contaminants throughout the property.
If you have found yourself dealing with sewage damage
We also provide safe sewage cleanup and sewage removal. Raw sewage is difficult to cleanup and can be extremely hazardous.
Sewage can contain high amounts of harmful bacteria and there are serious health risks associated with it. It’s critical that you do not try to clean up the mess from broken pipes that are connected to a sewage line.
Coming in contact with raw sewage can cause disease, can destroy your valuables and cause severe damage to your property.
Only trained professionals with the right equipment should handle sewage removal. Our team of professionally certified experts have years of experience resolving various sewage cleanup and repair problems.
- Move furniture, electronics, and personal property to a safe location to avoid further water damage.
- If applicable, remove curtains and anything else that touches the floor to avoid water damage.
- Wash hands after ANY contact with standing water. Be sure all property occupants do the same. Tools, brooms, mops, etc. will need to be sanitized after use.
Assess the Damage (But Don’t Clean)
Property owners think they’re helping when they clean flood damage, but they’re destroying evidence that could impact a claim or get the claim denied altogether.
Instead of cleaning, follow the steps we’ve listed above. Then, if it’s safe, take pictures of all property damage including personal items.
At PureDry® rest assured we have experience dealing with insurance claims.
A good restoration company can also help property owners decide if it’s best to make an insurance claim or pay for the water damage directly.
PureDry® Restoration works with property owners to ensure the best insurance outcome. This includes detailed documentation of the disaster, generating accurate estimates, we will bill the insurance company for you, and we will help you every step of the way to negotiate with insurance companies.

What to expect from the best Restoration company in Seattle
The reason that we remain the perfect choice for all of your flood restoration needs is our pure and safe techniques, using current tools and technologies.
After your initial consultation, we have a better idea of your exact restoration needs. Whether you have severe storm damage, had a pipe leak or burst, or even cleanup service options, we will determine the best restoration route for your job.
Next we take action to completely remove all of the water away from the site. Once the walls, floors, ceilings, and other areas are free of standing water, we can begin the restoration process.
Not all cases are the same; it can range from minor repairs to all-encompassing remodeling.
Light flooding typically just requires assistance in drying the area out, as well as basic cleanup services.
These cases require very little time, and are easy to bring back up to their full potential.
However, once the standing water has penetrated at least a foot past the walls, chances are there will be extensive repairs needed.
And if a hard surface, such as stone, hardwood, or even brick, becomes saturated, you need a true professional on your side.
Is the restoration company IICRC Certified
If you have spent some time browsing our website, chances are you’ll find many places on our page reminding you that our healthy home technicians are certified by the IICRC.
You may be thinking to yourself, what is the big deal with certifications for water damage?
There is a reason: it’s important for you, or anyone else in need of reliable water damage services to know.
So no matter what led you to our site or where you ended up, one of the things we think is most important for you to understand is the quality of the work you can expect from our technicians.
What is the IICRC?
The IICRC stands for the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning & Restoration Certification.
The IICRC serves as an independent, certification body, which sets and promotes high standards and ethics, and advances communication and technical proficiency within the inspection, cleaning and restoration industries. The IICRC also ensures that when consumers hire a clean trust-Certified Firm or technician, they have hired experts who will provide reasonable assurance that work will be completed in accordance with the industry’s “standard of care.”
The IICRC offers a wide variety of classes and training programs from remediating mold damage to cleaning carpets, and everything in between. All the technicians taking the classes have to pass a written exam and a hands on training session. They also have to maintain their knowledge yearly by taking additional refresher courses to stay up to date on the new material.
Why does it matter?
Most states require licensing for trade industries in which they deem your health and safety at a higher risk; if the work was not done to the proper standard of care.
Industries such as electrical contracting and plumbing come to the top of most people’s minds, but for whatever reason, no states require any sort of licensing for the water mitigation industry.
This means that literally anyone can start a water damage restoration company without any actual skills or knowledge of how to do water damage restoration.
Anyone can just cheaply finance some equipment and start taking jobs. Here at PureDry, we understand the complexities of the work we perform because we’ve seen situations that have been hard for even our most experienced technicians.
All of our technicians have to pass a written IICRC exam and a hands on IICRC training session.
They also have to maintain their knowledge yearly taking additional refresher courses to stay up to date on the new material.
So for us, the fact that just anyone can do our jobs is absurd.
You can trust you have hired the best restoration company in Seattle!
You can sleep sound knowing you have hired experts who will provide reasonable assurance that the work will be completed in accordance with industry’s standard of care.
