A-1 Heating was founded in Idaho in 1956 by two men and an old pickup truck. Seventy years later, we’re proud to have grown into a team of 130+ people, with a second location in McCall and seven decades of HVAC service across Southwest Idaho to look back on.
What hasn’t changed is why we do this. As a locally owned company with 130+ people who live and work right here in Idaho, looking after our customers comes naturally. Our technicians know first-hand what it means when a furnace goes out on a January night in Meridian, or an AC fails during an August heat wave in Boise. We don’t treat that like a service ticket. We treat it like it’s happening to a neighbor. Because it is.

A-1 Heating, Air Conditioning & Electric employs NATE-certified technicians across its Meridian and McCall service teams. NATE (North American Technician Excellence) is the largest independent certification organization for HVAC and refrigeration technicians in the country, recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy and ENERGY STAR as the industry benchmark for technical competence.
NATE certification requires technicians to pass rigorous specialty exams covering installation, service, and system diagnostics. Certified technicians must recertify every two years through continuing education, keeping their skills current with evolving equipment standards and building codes.
A-1 goes beyond the NATE minimum. The company invested 5,705 hours in professional training in 2025 alone, up from 3,384 hours in 2024 and 3,361 in 2023. Training covers Lennox factory certification, EPA 608 refrigerant handling, Idaho electrical code updates, high-altitude HVAC system calibration for the McCall mountain market, and heat pump technology for cold-climate applications rated to -13F.
For homeowners, hiring a NATE-certified contractor means the technician diagnosing your furnace, installing your heat pump, or wiring your electrical panel has been independently tested and verified, not just company-trained. According to NATE, certified technicians have a 33% higher competency rate on core HVAC skills compared to non-certified technicians.

A-1 Heating, Air Conditioning & Electric provides HVAC and electrical services across the Treasure Valley and McCall.
Heating and Cooling: Furnace installation and repair, air conditioner installation and repair, heat pump service and installation, ductless mini-split systems, boiler service, indoor air quality systems, whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers, ductwork repair and replacement, smart thermostat installation, water heater installation, and the MVP (Maintenance Value Program) plan.
Electrical: Panel upgrades, breaker and fuse box replacement, rewiring, new circuits, outlets and switches, GFCI upgrades, lighting, EV charger installation, standby generator installation and maintenance, surge protection, smoke and CO detector wiring, remodel electrical, and code corrections.
Specialty electrical: hot tub and spa outlets, RV outlets, shed and garage wiring, generator inlet installation, pendant and recessed lighting, attic fans, and security and signage lighting.
Commercial: We offer commercial HVAC services for new construction and retrofit, commercial electrical, tenant improvements, and emergency commercial service.
McCall customers: we serve HVAC needs across Valley County, including McCall, Cascade, Donnelly, Lake Fork, and New Meadows. Electrical services operate from our Meridian headquarters only.

We’ve had the honor of partnering with the Wyakin Warrior Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, the Idaho Food Bank, local high school sports teams, and Make-A-Wish Idaho, among many others. In 2024, A-1 Heating, Air Conditioning & Electric received the Patriotic Employer Award from ESGR for supporting team members who serve in the military. Each year, A-1 gives away a free AC and furnace to a local homeowner nominated by their neighbors for helping others, through the A-1 Be Cool, Be Warm and Lennox Feel the Love contests.
